Why a free backlink checker can't crawl the whole web

Full backlink checkers like Ahrefs and Semrush work because they run their own web crawlers around the clock, building and maintaining an index of billions of pages and the links between them. That infrastructure is expensive to run, which is why real backlink data is a paid feature everywhere. A free backlink checker running entirely in your browser has no crawler and no index — it can only work with links you already have in hand.

That's exactly what this tool does: rather than pretending to discover backlinks it has no way of finding, it takes a real list you paste in — most commonly a Google Search Console "Links" export — and gives you a genuine breakdown of referring domains, top linkers, and TLD distribution from that real data.

What actually makes a backlink profile strong

Link count alone is a weak signal. Ten links from ten different, relevant, real websites are generally worth more than fifty links from a single site, because search engines weigh diversity of endorsement — many different sources vouching for a page — more heavily than raw volume from one source. A healthy profile also tends to include a natural mix of top-level domains consistent with your actual audience, rather than a suspicious concentration of low-quality or unrelated TLDs, which can be a spam signal.

How to use this backlink checker

Frequently asked questions

Does this backlink checker pull live data?

Yes — Live lookup mode returns real referring-domain counts, total backlinks, and domain rank for any domain, pulled from our backlink data provider (sign in free). There's also an Analyze-export mode that breaks down a list of linking URLs you already have, such as a Google Search Console export, entirely in your browser with no sign-in.

Where do I get a list of backlink URLs to paste into this tool?

Google Search Console's Links report (under Legacy tools and reports, or the Links section) exports your top linking sites for free. You can also paste a backlink export from any paid tool you already have access to.

What makes a backlink profile healthy?

A healthy profile usually has links from many different referring domains rather than dozens of links from the same few sites, comes from relevant, real websites rather than link farms, and includes a mix of TLDs consistent with your actual audience and industry.

Is domain count more important than link count for SEO?

Generally yes. Ten links from ten different, relevant domains typically carry more SEO weight than fifty links from a single site, because search engines weigh diversity of endorsement heavily when assessing authority.
