Backlink Gap Analyzer

Find websites linking to your competitor but not to you. Discover outreach targets and close the backlink gap instantly.

How it works: we ask our backlink index for every referring domain that links to your competitor but not to you, then rank those link opportunities by domain authority. This surfaces prospects that are already proven to link to sites in your industry. Running on live backlink data bills us per lookup, so the gap report is part of Pro.

What is a Backlink Gap?

A backlink gap occurs when one or more of your competitors have secured backlinks from referring domains that do not currently link to your website. In the eyes of search engines, these links serve as "votes of confidence." If your top competitors share a high-authority backlink and you don't, you are at a competitive disadvantage in organic search.

Why You Need to Close the Gap

Finding your backlink gap is the highest-ROI link building strategy because the domains are already pre-qualified. If a website is willing to link to your direct competitor, they are statistically much more likely to link to you—whether through a guest post, a resource page inclusion, or a broken link replacement.

How to Use This Tool

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool require an account?

Yes. Every run pulls live data from our backlink index, and each lookup costs us real money with that provider — so the gap report is part of a Pro plan. Plenty of the other free tools, like the readability grader, schema generator and SERP preview, compute in your browser and stay free on any account.

How often is the backlink data updated?

We pull from a continuously refreshed index of the web, so you're working from current link data rather than a stale export. Newly built links can still take time to be crawled and indexed anywhere, so treat a very recent link's absence as a timing artefact rather than proof it doesn't exist.

Should I target every missing link?

Not necessarily. Focus your effort on high-quality, relevant domains. A link from a reputable industry blog is worth far more than dozens of low-quality directory links — which is why the report shows an authority score and a spam score for every domain, so you can work down from high authority and low spam.

Why do I only get the top 100 domains?

The report shows the total number of gap domains we found, but returns the strongest 100 by authority — that's already far more prospects than most outreach campaigns work through, and it keeps each run fast. You can download the full result set as a CSV to work through it in a spreadsheet.
