Why a sitemap needs its own validation step
An XML sitemap is a machine-readable index telling search engines every URL you'd like considered for crawling and indexing. Because it's meant to be read by machines, not rendered visually, structural errors are easy to introduce and easy to miss — a malformed tag, a relative URL where an absolute one is required, or a duplicate entry won't show any visible symptom until Google Search Console quietly reports it weeks later.

What belongs in a sitemap (and what doesn't)
A sitemap should list pages you actually want indexed and ranked — not every URL your site technically generates. Leave out admin pages, thank-you or checkout confirmation pages, duplicate parameterized URLs, and anything marked noindex. Including a noindexed page in your sitemap sends a contradictory signal to search engines and is one of the more common, avoidable mistakes.
